Job Description

The MGA Foundation (MGAF) is seeking a highly qualified individual for the new position of Senior Director of the Caddie Scholarship Funds of Westchester (WCSF) and Long Island (LICSF). The Senior Director would report to and work closely with the MGA Foundation Director to develop and execute the strategic objectives of the LICSF and WCSF, collaborating with their volunteer leadership boards and key members of the MGAF and MGA staff. 

The Senior Director is responsible for putting together and managing a team of four full-time staff members, including new hires dedicated to the CSFs, and for collaborating with major MGA and MGAF department heads in achieving the goals of the CSFs.  They will oversee the scholarship programs and be responsible for the CSF’s fundraising activities and events, and for developing new strategies and initiatives to increase awareness and financial support.  The Senior Director will be a hands-on manager responsible for the day-to-day operation of the CSFs from the MGA’s Golf Central headquarters in Elmsford, New York, and will work closely with the MGA Foundation Director and MGA Executive Director to coordinate the activities, goals and objectives of the CSFs with those of the MGAF. 

The MGA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1991 as the charitable arm of the Metropolitan Golf Association (est. 1897). The Foundation’s mission is to provide young people from all walks of life with life changing opportunities through golf.  The Long Island and Westchester Caddie Scholarship Funds are independent 501(c)(3) organizations dedicated to providing caddie scholarships to qualified applicants from their respective regions.

 

Ideal Candidates should have the following qualities and experience:

  • Strong leadership qualities and experience overseeing a diverse team in a fast paced, service oriented, non-profit environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with and interact effectively and creatively with the CSF’s volunteer leaders, club representatives, major donors, alumni, corporate partners, and allied golf associations.
  • Experience with caddie scholarship programs preferred but not required.
  • Experience with fundraising in the non-profit sector a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience dealing with deadlines and managing the multi-faceted, day-to-day operations of the CSFs.
  • Ability to work with the CSF’s volunteer officers, Management and Board of Directors, groups that are diverse and constantly changing, to ensure they are actively engaged and prepared to represent and lead the CSFs.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit finances, experience establishing and meeting financial goals and budget parameters and overseeing an investment portfolio.
  • Ability to effectively represent the CSFs and interact with high-level club contacts, major donors and alumni, as well as corporate, foundation, community and allied golf association leaders.
  • Knowledge and passion for the game of golf.

 

Personal Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 4+ year’s work experience (fundraising and caddie scholarship experience a plus).
  • Willingness to travel locally and regionally.
  • A high-energy self-starter, someone who will take initiative and can think, write and communicate creatively.
  • Advanced technology skills.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, salaried position that includes: Travel expense reimbursement, paid vacation, medical and dental benefits, employee profit sharing and 401(k) plan.
  • Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience, education and qualifications.

The Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA), located in Elmsford, N.Y was founded in 1897 and is one of the nation’s oldest and largest golf organizations, serving more than 500 member clubs and 140,000 golfers in the greater Metropolitan New York Area. The MGA offers its members a wide range of core services such as handicapping, course rating and measuring, insurance programs, and conducts some of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious regional championships.

 

The MGA Foundation is the charitable arm of the MGA. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to growing the game through innovative programs designed to attract young people from all backgrounds. MGA Foundation activities include the GOLFWORKS student intern program, junior competitions and clinics, caddie academies and support of the local Caddie Scholarship Funds. The MGA Foundation is also a founding partner of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York and helps direct the activities of the network of First Tee programs and facilities in the tristate area.  The MGA and MGA Foundation have operating budgets of approximately $4.5 and $1.5 million respectively.
