Club Certification

Several years ago the Metropolitan Golf Association, in conjunction with the USGA, embarked on a significant handicap education campaign. The primary objective of this program is to ensure that clubs and their members are thoroughly educated in the procedures and interpretations of the USGA Handicap System.
The requirements of the Certification Program are simple: a representative (staff or club member) from each MGA member club MUST attend at least one USGA-sanctioned seminar (run by either the USGA or MGA) per revision term. As of the end of the 2008-20011 term, all MGA member clubs have met the requirements of the Certification Program and will remain certified through 2015, provided they complete the handicap seminar and quiz requirement during the new revision term of January 1, 2012 – December 31, 2015.
All clubs currently licensed within the USGA Handicap System Licensing Program for Clubs will remained licensed through 2015 as long as a club representative attends a Handicap seminar and passes a test exhibiting knowledge of the System during the term of 2012-2015. In addition the club must have a signed license agreement in place with an authorized golf association or the USGA prior to issuing a Handicap Index to its members.
The MGA has long been recognized as a leader in providing member clubs with the best and most complete handicap service available anywhere. We feel this Certification Program is a necessary and worthwhile endeavor, especially as more and more new players are welcomed to the game of golf. Our Certification Program will help ensure that all of our clubs, and their members, continue to follow all aspects of the USGA Handicap System.
