MGA Foundation Supporters Enjoy Day of Golf

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 31, 2011) – Over 100 supporters of the MGA Foundation attended the 2011 MGA Foundation Day of Golf on Thursday, May 26, at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn. This was the 17th year of the event, which has become a very special day on the MGA calendar. With more than $80,000 raised in support of the MGA Foundation’s GOLFWORKS Student Intern program, the day was a tremendous success.

Stanwich has hosted the 1972 and 1996 Met Opens, the 1989 Ike Championship and the 2002 U.S. Mid-Amateur. As one of the premier golf courses in the country, Stanwich was extremely generous in hosting the event, allowing almost all of the funds raised to go directly towards the GOLFWORKS program.

Along with a great setting for golf, the day featured GOLFWORKS interns Don Cervantes, Amanda Gonzalez and Ellen Gyapong. Gyapong spoke at the reception about how vital the GOLFWORKS program has been to her success as a student, worker and individual.

The GOLFWORKS program was created in 1994, with 12 students working at six clubs. This year, there will be more than 200 GOLFWORKS interns working at more than 85 MGA member clubs. The Day of Golf has been held at some of the top golf courses in the Met Area and continues to be a popular way to raise awareness of the GOLFWORKS program. Past hosts include Trump National-Bedminster in Bedminster, N.J., Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., last year’s host, Friar’s Head in Riverhead, N.Y., and Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., which will again host the Day of Golf in 2012.
