Cavaliere leads at 5-under at the 97th Met Junior sponsored by MetLife

DENVILLE, N.J. (July 15, 2014) – The first of two rounds of stroke play qualifying at the 97th Met Junior sponsored by MetLife at Rockaway River Country Club has ended and five players fired under par rounds. The top 16 players out of 62 will move on to the match play portion of the tournament tomorrow.

Carding a superb 5-under 67 was Christian Cavaliere of Katonah, N.Y. Cavaliere had five birdies and an eagle on the par-4 eighth hole en route to the first round lead.

Christopher Troy of Greenwich, Conn., shot a 3-under 69 and holds on to second. Christopher Gabriele of Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., and Michael Graboyes of Watchung, N.J., each shot 2-under 70s and are tied for third. Alone in fifth is former MGA/MetLife Boys Champion Matt Lowe of Farmingdale, N.Y., after a 1-under 71.

Three players are at even par including the two youngest players in the event. The 13-year-old Nathan Han of Somers, N.Y., and 14-year-old Ethan Ng of New York, N.Y., are tied for sixth along with Erick Alonso of Haworth, N.J. 

The field has another round of stroke play qualifying to determine the low 16s scorers who will move on to match play to ultimately determine the champion.
