U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Comes to Hollywood

UPDATED 8:00 p.m (September 16, 2014) - Sherry Herman and Laura Algiero's  runs at the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur came to an end when they were both defeated in the Round of 16 matches on Tuesday afternoon. Herman fell 4 & 3 to Mina Hardin of Mexico while Algiero couldn't catch Canada's Judith Kyrinis.

The quarterfinals will take place on Wednesday morning, followed by the semifinal matches. The final match will be played on Thursday, September 18.

UPDATED 1:40 p.m. (September 16, 2014) - Sherry Herman  and Laura Algiero dominated their Round of 32 matches this morning to advance to the Round of 16. Algiero took the lead right from the first hole and defeated Jen Holland of Branford, Conn., 8 & 6. Herman, on her quest for a second U.S. Senior Women's Amateur title, won 5 & 4 over Pamela Kuong of. Wellesley Hills, Mass.

UPDATED 8:00 a.m. (September 16, 2014) - Laura Algiero and Sherry Herman won their Round of 64 Matches to advance to the Round of 32 on Tuesday at Hollywood Golf Club. Herman had a great come-from-behind win to rally and win her match 4 & 2, and Algiero won her match 1 up to advance.

Falling in the Round of 64 was Cheryl Brayman, who was defeated 4 & 2 by Jen Holland of Branford, Conn. Algiero will face Branford Tuesday morning.

UPDATED 11:31 a.m. (September 15, 2014) - The stroke play qualifying portion of the tournament is over at the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur at Hollywood Golf Club and a few of the locals advanced to the match play.

In the Round of 64 is the 2012 & 2010 WMGA/MGA Women's Met Amateur Champion Laura Algiero of White Plains, N.Y. Joining her is Sherry Herman of Jackson, N.J., who is looking to capture her 2nd U.S. Senior Women's Amateur title. Also into the match play round is Cheryl Brayman of East Hills, N.Y.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 10, 2014)- Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J., is set to host the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur on September 13-18. The starting field of 132 women, all age 50 and older, will play in 36 holes of on-site stroke play qualifying over the weekend to determine the low 64 scorers who will advance to match play on Monday. Eight Met Area women will head to Hollywood, the site of the 2012 Met Amateur Championship, with hopes of coming home with the trophy.

This is the second USGA championship held at Hollywood Golf Club, the course last hosted a USGA event in 1921 with the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. The course, originally designed by Walter Travis, was renovated in 1998 by Rees Jones. The layout will measure 6,109 yards and play to a par of 73 for the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur.
