GOLFWORKS Intern Joshua in Full Force at Baltusrol

Springfield, N.J. (July 30, 2015) - Joshua Skillern, second year GOLFWORKS intern and rising senior at Technology High School in Newark, is in the midst of working his second summer at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ. Joshua explains that he returned to the GOLFWORKS program at Baltusrol because his first summer was so memorable and presented opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Joshua works in the bag room managing club storage, assisting in tournament operations, supporting the caddy program and excelling at customer service.

Joshua dreams of one day becoming a music producer, an aspiration that was sparked by his love of listening to music on the radio and identifying specific patterns and beats. Joshua’s uncle is a security guard and works closely with famous music producers, many of whom Joshua has been able to meet and shadow in recording studios. Upon graduation from high school next spring, Joshua hopes to attend college, either at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken or New York University, and major in music.

Joshua believes that working in the GOLFWORKS program has taught him the value of hard work. He has improved on effectively communicating with many different individuals, skills that will transfer well into his next stage of life. Engaging in conversation with new people was always a struggle for Joshua. Working at Baltusrol has changed that. “Being at Baltusrol has made me a more social person and has allowed me to come in contact with different personality types. This will help me in the future by allowing me to communicate well with different individuals,” Joshua says. He is now comfortable speaking with members and coworkers multiple times per day.
