Met Open Qualifying Concludes at Hackensack

ORADELL, N.J. (July 23, 2015) – Today concluded the final sectional qualifying for the Met Open at Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, N.J., where 16 players qualified for this year’s 100th Met Open Championship. At the start of the day, a group of 150 competitors competed for 13 qualifying spots plus ties.

The medalist for today’s round came from amateur Blaine Lafferty of MGA eClub – New Jersey, a freshman golfer at the University of Delaware, who shot a bogey-free round 67. This will be the 19-year-old’s first trip to the Met Open. 

Brothers Jeremy and Ethan Wall of Manasquan River Golf Club, both shot a 3-under 69 in the morning. Ethan Wall had a stretch of five straight birdies on the front-nine, while Jeremy Wall had one of the eagles of the day at the par-5 first hole. Joining them in a tie for 2nd were Alex Beach of Ridgewood Country Club, and Kevin Syring of Alpine Country Club.

Amateurs Thomas La Morte of Haworth Country Club, who finished in a tie for 7th at the NJSGA Amateur last month, and Luke Edelman of Liberty National Golf Club, both qualified with a 2-under 70.

Mark Yannotta of Anchor Golf Center, qualified alongside amateurs Jin Jeon of Edgewood Country Club, Ryan Snouffer of Panther Valley, and Dawson Jones of MGA eClub – New Jersey with a 1-under 71. Yannotta finished third in the NJSGA Senior Open earlier this summer and qualified for the Senior PGA Professional Championship for the second straight year earlier this week.

A group of four players snuck in the last qualifying spot at even par-72. Those within that group included amateur Steven Zychowski of Mendham Golf and Tennis Club, Stephen Clark of Sunningdale Country Club, Lou Kubisa of Knob Hill Golf Club, and Tyler Jaramillo of The Saint Andrews Golf Club.

Hackensack Golf Club played to a par-72 with a total yardage of 6,804 yards. The first hole, which is originally played as a par-4, was changed to a par-5 484-yard hole.

Those who advanced will now play in the 100th Met Open Championship on August 25-27, 2015 on Winged Foot’s East Course.
