Theodorakis, Cavaliere set morning pace at 99th Met Junior sponsored by MetLife

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (July 12, 2016) – Max Theodorakis of Danbury, Conn., and Christian Cavaliere of Katonah, N.Y., have set the early pace at the 99th Met Junior Championship sponsored by MetLife, following matching morning rounds of 3-under 68 at The Patterson Club. Following Tuesday’s 36 holes of stroke play, the top 16 players will advance to match play for the final two days of competition.

Theodorakis registered four birdies and an eagle-three on the ninth to three bogies over his first 18 holes. Cavaliere tallied five birdies, including four in a six-hole stretch on Nos. 9-14, while carding just two bogies.

Brent Ito of Ardsley, N.Y., last year’s stroke-play medalist at the Met Junior, is close behind following a morning round of 1-under 70. Matthew Minerva Jr., of Elmsford, N.Y., and Justin Clark of New Canaan, Conn., rounded out those with par-or-better scores in the first round, both with even-par 71s.

The second and final round of stroke play is underway to decide the 16 advancing positions. The format will then be match play for the remainder of the tournament, with a champion scheduled to be crowed on Thursday.
