Bido leads 13 Met Open qualifiers from Westchester Hills qualifier

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (August 1, 2017) - A total of 13 competitors qualified for the 102nd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway, Tuesday from Westchester Hills Golf Club. Amateo Bido of Royce Brook shot a 7-under 63, leading the field in qualifying for the August 22-24 championship which will take place at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J.

After bogeying his first hole of the day (the 10th), Bido quickly responded with a birdie and five consecutive pars. Another birdie allowed him to turn in 1-under, while he posted a sizzling 30 over his final nine en route to the impressive 63. He birdied each of his last four holes to finish four shots ahead of his fellow competitors.

David Schuster of Sleepy Hollow and Charles Meola of Saxon Woods both fired 3-under 67s to also easily advance to the championship proper. Amateurs Scott Kim of Darlington and MGA eClub Westchester/Fairfield member Paul Pastore followed close behind with rounds of 2-under 68.

Todd Larson of Round Hill and Andrew Gruss of Greenwich carded 1-under 69s to advance, as did a trio of accomplished amateurs: 2017 Westchester Amateur champion Christian Cavaliere of Mahopac, 2017 Westchester Junior champion Matt Minerva, Jr., of Hudson National, and 2015 Carter Cup champion Bobby Diforio, Jr., of Westchester Hills.

James Ondo of Apawamis, John Deforest, Sr., of Rondout and MGA eClub Westchester/Fairfield member Vinay Ramesh secured the final qualifying positions, tying 11th with rounds of even-par 70.

Westchester Hills played at 6,257 yards as a par 70 for a starting field of 120 competitors.

Three qualifying rounds remain for the 102nd Met Open Championship, with the next taking place August 3 at Tam O'Shanter Club in Glen Head, N.Y. The final two take place August 7 at Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, Conn., and August 8 at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, N.J.
