Hazen leads 24 Met Open qualifiers from Wheatley Hills

EAST WILLISTON, N.Y. (July 31, 2017) – Qualifying for the 102nd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway continued Monday at Wheatley Hills Golf Club, where the top 16 finishers plus ties would advance to the 102nd Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J., August 22-24. Following play, a total of 24 competitors finished at even-par 72 or better.

Jimmy Hazen of St. George's earned medalist honors following a 4-under 68, which featured five birdies.

Taking second were Jeremy Quinn of Laurel Links and Dylan Crowley of Glen Cove, both carding matching 3-under 69s.

Steve Perrone of Garden City, Mike Midgette of Bethpage State Park, Paul Dickinson of Atlantic, Mike Meehan of Old Westbury, and Sean Quinlivan of Piping Rock all followed close behind, shooting 2-under 70s.

Six competitors qualified at 1-under 71, including Cole Vissicchio of The Creek, Kurt Brey of Bethpage State Park, Matthew Sita of Old Westbury, Colin Corrigan of Friar’s Head, Dylan Newman of Westchester, and Patrick McCarthy of Huntington Crescent. McCarthy’s 71 included a hole-in-one on the par-three8th hole, which played at 153 yards.

Even-par proved to be a popular number for the day, as 10 competitors posted even-par 72s to tie for 15th and earn their way to Hollywood: Tom Withee of The Seawane Club, Jack Wall of Manasquan River, Matt McAdow of Wheatley Hills, Sean Hand of Garden City Golf Club, Kyle Baehler of Willow Ridge, Kyle Higgins of Inwood, Dustin Bride of Bonnie Briar, Mark Reilly of Peninsula, John Yu of Harbor Links, and Kirk Oguri of The Greens at Half Hollow.

Wheatley Hills played to a par 72 at 6,722 yards for the starting field of 142 golfers.

Met Open qualifying will continue Tuesday at Westchester Hills Golf Club in White Plains, N.Y.
