Luke Graboyes leads 22 Ike Qualifiers at White Beeches

HAWORTH, N.J. (May 25, 2017) – A total of 22 players qualified for the 62nd MGA Ike Stroke Play Championship Presented by Callaway on Thursday from White Beeches Golf and Country Club, advancing to the June 26-27 event at Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y.

Having just completed his senior season at Cornell, Luke Graboyes of Watchung Valley carded the low round of the day with a 1-under 71. Graboyes, the 2016 Ivy League individual champion tallied an eagle and three birdies to four bogeys on the day en route to the only sub-par score.

Three strokes behind Graboyes were Scott Kim of Darlington and Bobby Weise of Eagle Oaks, both carding 2-over 74s. David Powers of Swan Lake, Christopher Yeom of Rolling Green, eClub – New Jersey member Wes Samons and John Felitto of Echo Lake all shot 75 to secure their spot in the MGA’s first major of the season.

In all, the top 19 finishers and ties advanced to June’s championship. Also qualifying were: MGA eClub – Long Island member Ben Pirro, Met PGA Junior member Sean Haselton, Stephen Valahoviv of Darlington, and Ryan Rodriguez of Mansion Ridge all with matching 76s, William Brett of White Beeches, Ryan Skae of Rockland, Christopher Gotterup of Rumson, Michael Rojas of White Beeches and Kevin Talty of Smithtown Landing all with rounds of 77. Filling the final qualifying positions were Scott Mackesy of Winged Foot, MGA eClub – NYC member Matthew Rendell, William Voetsch of Baltusrol, Jacob Cohl of Liberty National, Jack Wall of Manasquan River, and Thomas Dunleavy of Wee Burn, all tallying 78s.

A windy, wet morning gave way to a cloudy afternoon in northern New Jersey. White Beeches played to a par 72 at 6,506 yards with a starting field of 111 competitors.

White Beeches was hosting the fourth of five qualifying rounds that will help complete the field for June’s championship. The final qualifier takes place Thursday, June 8 at North Fork Country Club in Cutchogue, N.Y.
