Glen Cove's Canarick and Mazza Win Women's Four-Ball Again

MAMARONECK, N.Y. (October 14, 2015) – 56 teams of two took to the field at Hampshire Country Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. in the hopes of becoming the 31st MGA/MetLife Women’s Four-Ball Champions. In the end, it was last year’s champions that would emerge victorious once again. After an impressive round of 6-under 65, Susan Canarick and Janet Mazza from the Glen Cove Women’s 18 Holers retained their title and became two-time champions.

A match of cards broke the tie between two teams who finished with a 4-under 67, after which 2nd place went to Pam Darreff and Cathie Andreoli, representing Mohansic Hills and 3rd place went to Trish Brophy and Kathy Lomas, representing The Woods

Although this event is primarily a net championship, prizes are rewarded to players with the lowest gross score. Finishing with the lowest gross score by a landslide was Patrice Franco and Yong Park of EWGA – Long Island earned 1st place with a 77. Following at 85 were Donna De Marco and Barbara Quis from Lake Isle and Paula Tucker and Jean Stump from Crab Meadow. Lake Isle placed 2nd and 3rd place went to Crab Meadow.

Entry into the MGA/MetLife Women's Four-Ball Championship requires qualifying on the club level before teams can participate in one of the MGA's Sectional Qualifying Rounds. The competition is a two-woman team event, and eachplayer must have an active USGA Handicap Index that does not exceed 28.0 at the time the team attempts to qualify at the club level, and the combined Handicap Index of the team may not exceed 48.0. The format of play at the club qualifying, sectional qualifying and championship levels is 18 holes of stroke-play on a net better-ball basis. 

The MGA announced this spring the re-branding of the event, previously known as the MGA/MetLife Women’s Net Team Championship. For 30 years, this popular event has provided scratch golfers and high-handicappers alike with a first-class championship experience. The MGA/MetLife Women’s Four-Ball Championship still focuses on players of all skill levels, and the events are now conducted by the MGA’s charitable Foundation.

Hampshire Country Club played to a par 35-36-71 at 5,125 yards for a starting field of 56.
