2017 Long Island Senior Amateur Recap

David Prowler of Bethpage State Park won the 2017 Long Island Senior Amateur Championship on Wednesday, October 4th, by five shots with a 2 over par 36 hole total of 146. Gary Spector of the Woodmere Club and Scott Singer, a 2017 LIGA Associate Member, both shot 2 over par 74 on Day One of the 2017 Long Island Senior Amateur Championship at Old Westbury Golf & Country Club on Tuesday to lead a total of 22 competitors into Day Two; under the six-shot rule, the cut was 80. 

In the Day One competitions in the flights, Gary Spector won the low net in the Senior Flight (ages 55-60) with net 71, and Bruce Howard of The Vineyards GC was second with net 73. In the Super Senior Flight (ages 61-67), Robert Riefberg of Cold Spring CC won the gross competition with 76, and Jay Sessa of Gardiner's Bay CC was second with 78; Richard Olivieri of St. George's G & CC won the net competition with 67, and Guy Warren of Lake Success CC was second with 74. In the Legends Flight (68 and up), Marty Winkelman of Glen Head CC won a match of cards for low gross with Richard Schmidt, a 2017 LIGA Associate Member; both had 78's; in the net competition, Charles Steele of Glen Cove GC won with 68, and Michael Katayanagi of Harbor Links GC had 70. Senior Flight gross scores are available here ; Super Senior Flight gross scores are available here, and Legends Flight gross scores are available here.
