Junior POY Guidelines

The final selection of the MGA Junior Player of the Year Award, Presented by Callaway, and of individuals to represent the MGA in special competitions, is determined by the MGA Executive Committee. The selection process will include, but will not be limited to, Junior Player of the Year points earned during a season.

Please note the following guidelines for tracking your points:

  • To be eligible for the MGA Junior Player of the Year, male competitors must have not started attending college and are not yet 19 by the last day of the Met Junior on July 21, 2022, and must reside in the MGA territory. Competitors must have an active GHIN number and must compete in two (2) of the following MGA championships: Met Junior Championship sponsored by MetLife, Carter Cup, MGA Ike Championship Presented by Callaway, Met Amateur Championship, and Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway OR compete in four (4) regional events on the Junior Player of the Year points standings AND one (1) of the following MGA championships: Met Junior Championship sponsored by MetLife, Carter Cup, MGA Ike Championship Presented by Callaway, Met Amateur Championship, and Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway.

  • In an event where points are awarded for Sectional or Local Qualifying, Exempt players will be awarded qualifying points only if they compete in the Championship.

  • The Junior Player of the Year points race will conclude on September 15, 2022.

Note: For the purpose of determining whether a player has competed in the required number of MGA or Met Area Events and for the purpose of awarding points to exempt players, the term “compete” shall mean that a player has completed at least 18 holes (stroke play) or one match (match play) in the event.

  • In events for which points are awarded for Local or Sectional Qualifying, if non-exempt players, or exempt players who have given up their exemption, play in and earn points for qualifying, they will be awarded those points even if they subsequently withdraw from the championship proper. Players who are exempt from U.S. Open Local Qualifying, but complete at least 18 holes during Sectional Qualifying will receive the points for the Local Qualifying Round.

  • In order to earn MGA Junior Player of the Year points, a player must reside in MGA territory and have an active GHIN number prior to the start of the points-eligible competition. A competition starts on the first day the player competes in either qualifying or the championship itself.

  • It is the responsibility of each player to notify the MGA of top finishes in any national or international event or if they qualify for a USGA event outside of the Metropolitan Area within a practical time period upon completion of the event. Points for other national events will be awarded at the discretion of the Metropolitan Golf Association.

+     In Open Stroke Play events, points awarded for making the On-site Cut, Sectional and Local Qualifying, and for finishing Low Amateur (+) would be in addition to any other points awarded.

 #     Points for Sectional Qualifying, On-site Cut and “Matches Won” (#) are cumulative.  However, players who finish 10th or better in amateur stroke play events, or winner, runner-up, semi-finalist or quarter-finalist in match play events, will receive only the points listed for that position.

 ##   Qualifying Medalist Points (##) are bonus points and will be added to any other points awarded.
