(May 29, 2019) -- Nick Dilio of The Links at Union Vale carded a 3-under 69 Wednesday at Blue Hill Golf Course to claim the 2019 Westchester Public Links Championship by two shots, while also claiming medalist honors to qualify for the 72nd MGA Public Links Championship, which takes place June 13 at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station, N.J.

Dilio, the head golf at Saint Peter's University, entered the championship with a goal to score well on the par-fives and did just that, playing the four holes in 3-under par. "I knew coming in that I needed to take care of the par fives," said Dilio, 25. "So, I got off to a good start birdieing the second hole, then stuck two more shots [on Nos. 6-7] to about two feet for tap-in birdies which is always nice, then I came around and birdied nine to turn in 4-under."

While Dilio tallied a couple bogeys on the inward nine, he rolled in another pair of birdies on Nos. 15-16 en route to posting his 69.

"Approaches and putting were definitely my strength today," said Dilio, who tallied six birdies in all. "I putted well, so that was probably the biggest asset."

"It means a lot," said Dilio of winning the title. "I've come really close a few times in the MGA Public Links and different events, so it may not sink in for a while, but I'm really excited."

Eric Bleile of Sterling Farms tallied the day's only additional score under-par, carding a 1-under 71 behind a five-birdie effort. MGA eClub - Hudson Valley member Stephen Scialo posted even-par 72, while fellow MGA eClub - Hudson Valley member Stanley Garrant and MGA eClub - Connecticut member Ryan Garrity rounded out the top five finishers with 1-over 73s.
