Farrell Wins LI Senior Open in Playoff
INWOOD, N.Y. (October 14, 2022) - The 2022 Long Island Senior Open Championship Presented By Steve Madden at Inwood Country Club was shortened to an 18-hole event due to weather. The championship concluded with a three-hole aggregate playoff between Jim Farrell of Hamlet Golf & Country Club and Mike Meehan of Old Westbury Golf & Country Club. Both competitors carded rounds of 2-over on day one to earn spots in the playoff.
The playoff began on the par-3 seventh, where Farrell made par and Meehan made double bogey. On the second playoff hole, the par-4 eleventh, Farrell made double bogey to Meehan's bogey. For the final playoff hole, the par-4 eighteenth, Farrell hit his approach to three feet. Meehan two putted for par, so Farrell needed just two putts to win. He drained the birdie putt to claim the 2022 Senior Open title.
This is Farrell's second career win at this event, the first coming in 2020 at Cold Spring Country Club. With the support of Steve Madden, Farrell was awarded a check for $3,700 at the conclusion of the playoff.
Amateur David Blatte of Atlantic Golf Club finished in third with a round of 4-over. 2021 champion Darrell Kestner of Deepdale Golf Club recorded a round of 5-over to finish in a tie for fourth.
