Goldstein, the 2016 Long Island Amateur Championship winner, won his quarterfinal match 5 & 4, closing it out with a birdie on the 14th hole. He talked about being comfortable in the morning session.

"I came out and was pretty much clicking on all cylinders. Everything felt good," he said.

The afternoon was less agreeable. His opponent, Michael Auerbach, battled to the last hole. Auerbach held the lead for most of the front nine, but Goldstein was able to take holes 8, 9, 10, and 11 to seize the lead.

"This afternoon the wind picked up, got a little bit crispier out there. The greens sped up, and when the wind blows, this golf course is pretty narrow to begin with so it gets pretty small pretty quick," he said. "Got hot, made a couple putts, and then there was a little bit of a hold on there at the end."

Tyler Gerbavsits, an incoming senior for the St. John's University golf team, will compete against Goldstein in the tomorrow's final. Gerbavsits had a challenge in the morning, going back and forth with his competitor, Sam O'Hara, until the 10th hole. He was able to close it out on the back, winning holes 10, 11, 13, and 15 to take the match 3&2.

His afternoon was equally challenging. Gerbavsits got out to a big lead, going 5 up thru twelve. His opponent, Garrett Engel, came back to take 4 of the next 5 holes, shrinking the lead back to just 1. Gerbavsits was able to win the match 1-up with a par on 18.

"I really just kept my head in there like I have the last few days," he said. "I was making sure that I made the putts that I needed to make to keep myself up and finally found my iron game a little bit today, so everything is kind of going in the right direction."

The first 18 holes of tomorrow's 36-hole final is set to begin at 7:30 AM.
