EAST WILLISTON, N.Y. (May 5, 2022) -- Trevor Randolph of Arcola was the low medalist for the Championship Division on Thursday as Stroke Play Qualifying took place for the 2022 Richardson Memorial Championship Sponsored by Keystone Electronics Corp. at Wheatley Hills Golf Club.

Randolph, who carded a 4-under 68 in the morning wave, finished his round in style, holing out from the fairway for eagle on 18 and capping off a closing stretch of 4-under in his final three holes.

“One hundred thirty-one yards to the hole playing about 145 is what we thought," Randolph explained. “I hit a chippy nine iron - it took one hop, hit the stick and went in, it was perfect.”

“I’m playing really well right now and I feel like I am in complete control,” Randolph said about the state of his game. “I did a lot of work over the winter on my short game and my chipping is the best it’s been in the last 10 years. Tomorrow I am going to be super aggressive and make the other players come get me.”

Darin Goldstein of Deepdale is one of four players in the Championship Division who finished at even-par 72.

“I was in the fairway most of the day, and especially on the par fives. That enabled me to get up close around the greens and execute some quality chips and make some putts,” Goldstein said.

In the Senior Division, Dave Scialabba of Meadow Brook recorded the low round of the day, shooting 2-under 70.

“The course was terrific. It played tough, especially on the front nine,” Scialabba explained. "I hit the ball really well all day but definitely made more than my fair share of long putts.”

Sixteen players from the Championship Division and sixteen players from the Senior Division advanced to match play. Tee times for Friday’s Round of 16 will begin at 7 a.m. Players who advance to the Quarterfinals will play on Friday after the conclusion of the first wave of matches.
