FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (September 15, 2020) -- Bethpage State Park's Black Course gritted its teeth during the Michael Hebron Amateur Championship, as Kyle Ritchie of Cherry Valley earned the one-shot victory with a 7-over 149 total for the two-day championship.

Ritchie entered Tuesday's final round five shots off the pace after 2020 LIGA Boys' and Junior champion Sam O'Hara of Maidstone fired an impressive, bogey-free 3-under 68 in the opening round. But, with O'Hara shooting 6-over 42 on the opening nine, the door was opened for several competitors to have their shot at the title.

For Ritchie, pars on Nos. 9-12--a challenging stretch of long par-4s--helped move him to the top of the leaderboard. Though he tallied a quartet of bogeys on the way in, a birdie-two on the 14th and par-four on the closer secured the victory.

O'Hara birdied the last to card 11-over 82 and finish tied second alongside MGA eClub - Long Island member Jeremy Quinn. Quinn, a former professional making his return to the amateur game, turned in a 3-over 74 on Tuesday for the final round's low score.

Colin Dolph of Nassau and 2020 Long Island Amateur and 2019 Hebron winner Carter Prince of Huntington Crescent registered 9-over totals to tie fourth.

Ritchie adds his name to the Florence P. Hebron Trophy, named in honor of PGA Hall of Famer Michael Hebron's mother. The Michael Hebron Amateur Championship is played annually at Bethpage Black.
