Seawane, Westhampton, Headline 2022 LIGA Championship Slate

 

MINEOLA, NY (February 8, 2022) - The Long Island Golf Association has released its 2022 championship schedule, offering players the opportunity to compete at some of Long Island’s most prestigious venues for several historic LIGA championships. Championship registration will begin on March 1st.

The 2022 season will kick off with the Richardson Memorial Championship Presented by Keystone Electronics Corp., May 5-7 at Wheatley Hills Golf Club. The following week, the 2022 Ricciardi Net Four-Ball Championship will be played at Nissequogue Golf Club on May 16.

The season’s first major championship, the 98th Long Island Open Presented By Stifel, will be June 7-9 at Westhampton Country Club. Prior to the event, there will be two days of qualifying; May 17 at Bethpage State Park (Red Course) and May 23 at Indian Hills Country Club.

Defending champion Andrew Svoboda of Engineers Country Club will look to win his fourth Long Island Open title in the last five years. This will be Westhampton’s fourth time hosting the championship.

Later in the month, the LIGA’s second and final major championship of the 2022 season, the 99th Long Island Amateur Championship Presented By Webster Bank, will be played June 20-23 at The Seawane Club. This is Seawane’s third time hosting the Long Island Amateur, and its first since 1954.

The 101st Long Island Junior, Boys’ and Girls’ Championships will be June 29 at Smithtown Landing Golf Course. The 2022 Michael Hebron Championship will be contested July 6-7 at its annual host site, Bethpage Black.

There are two great events scheduled for August that are to be played in the same week. The 2022 LIGA Mid-Amateur Championship will take place at Plandome Country Club August 8-9. The 2022 Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship will be played August 10-11 on Bethpage State Park’s Red Course.

A trio of championships to wrap up the season in October: the Long Island Senior Open Championship Sponsored By Steve Madden at Inwood Country Club (Oct. 3-4), the George Sands Memorial Four-Ball Championship at North Shore Country Club (Oct. 17) and the Arthur Weber Memorial Senior Amateur Championship at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club (Oct. 20-21).

Championship registration will once again take place through Golf Genius.
