Semifinals Set for Saturday at Richardson

EAST WILLISTON, N.Y. (May 6, 2022) -- Wheatley Hills Golf Club hosted a lot of golf and its fair share of rain on Friday en route to determining the semifinal match-ups for the 2022 Richardson Memorial Championship Sponsored by Keystone Electronics Corp.

In the Championship Division, Ryan Hom of North Hempstead, Prescott Butler of Piping Rock, Daniel Abbondandolo of Brookville and Thomas Lee of Hudson National all won both their matches, advancing to Saturday’s semifinal.

“I hit a lot of fairways and greens today and putted really well,” Hom said. “In that match with Darin [Goldstein], I got hot with the putter, I think I made six birdies. For the entire day, in both matches, I stayed steady and kept the pressure on my opponents.”

Hom will play Butler at 7:46 a.m., and Abbondandolo will play Lee at 7:54 a.m.

In the Senior Division, Dave Boccia of Huntington, Dave Scialabba of Meadow Brook, Alan Specht of Port Jefferson, and Rene Bosne of Bayonne all won their matches, advancing to Saturday’s semifinal.

“I putted pretty well today and both of my matches came down to 18,” Boccia explained. “I was fortunate enough to sneak out a victory in both of them, 1-up and 1-up.”

Scialabba will play Specht at 7:30 AM and Dave Boccia will play Rene Bosne at 7:38 a.m. The championship matches will be played after the conclusion of the semifinals.
