Brown tallied a pair of birdies to make the turn in 2-under 35. After three pars to begin the inward nine, Brown made the last six holes interesting, making three birdies to help offset three bogeys.

Meehan, who recently finished tied second in the MGA Senior Open in a playoff, used a trio of birdies and two bogeys for his 70.

Jim Farrell of Hamlet and Jim Weiss of host Cold Spring posted even-par rounds, while five amateurs including two-time MGA Mid-Amateur champion Dennis Lynch of Nassau Players posted 1-over rounds of 72.

Reigning champion Darrell Kestner of Deepdale, former LPGA player Jean Bartholomew of Engineers and three-time reigning LIGA Senior Player of the Year Jay Sessa of Cherry Valley were three of seven players that tallied 2-over 73s. Kestner came from five shots behind to win his title at Atlantic a year ago.

A total of 32 players made the cut with scores of 5-over 76 or better. Wednesday's final round begins at 7:30 a.m., with Brown and Meehan teeing off at 10:10 a.m.
