Long Island Amateur Heads to Huntington Crescent

Huntington Crescent Club

MINEOLA, N.Y. (July 17, 2020) -- With Long Islanders eager for competitive golf, the 97th Long Island Amateur Championship Presented by Sterling National Bank will have a full field of competitors teeing off Monday at Huntington Crescent Club. The championship has a number of format changes for 2020, with stroke play qualifying being just one round and only 15 players advancing to the match play bracket, where defending champion Prescott Butler of Meadow Brook will take the No. 1 seed. The championship match will also be just 18 holes opposed to its traditional 36.

Butler, a rising junior at Southern Methodist University after transferring from Alabama, will aim to become the first player to defend his title since Ken Bakst did so in 1994-95. Butler made an impressive run last year, taking medalist honors in stroke play qualifying before dominating the field through match play to win the title and eventually claim LIGA Player of the Year honors.

Huntington Crescent is welcoming the Long Island Amateur for the sixth time. Find out more about the 97th Long Island Amateur Championship below.
