Hendrickson Wins Hebron at Bethpage
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (July 30, 2019) -- Keith Hendrickson shot 1-over-par 143 (69-74) over two days to win the 2019 Michael Hebron Amateur Championship on Bethpage State Park's famed Black Course, Tuesday. Christopher White of Garden City Golf Club followed one shot behind, while Kyle Ritchie of Cherry Valley finished third with a cumulative score of 146 as competitors dealt with two days of July heat and humidity on the physically demanding Black Course.
After Monday's 18 holes, Gerry Mackedon of Port Jefferson Country Club held a one-stroke lead over Hendrickson behind a 3-under-par 68. On Tuesday morning, Hendrickson played the Black's opening nine in even-par, while Mackedon fell back. After 27 holes, Hendrickson held a three-shot leave over both Mackedon and White. White played the inward nine in 1-over-par, just coming up short of catching Hendrickson.
Hendrickson and MGA eClub - Long Island member, has not played a lot of golf in recent years due to the demands of work and family, but back in the early 2000s, he won the former Long Island Public Links Championship on the Black Course. His rounds in the championship were just his sixth and seventh of the year.
