Bracket Set for Long Island Amateur

EAST WILLISTON, N.Y. (June 19, 2018) – The stroke play qualifying portion of the Long Island Amateur Championship presented by Sterling National Bank took place Tuesday at Wheatley Hills Golf Club, where a total of 31 players qualified for the LIGA’s premiere match play championship. The qualifiers join reigning champion Garett Engel of Seawane Club, who was exempt into the field.

Fresh off of his victory at the MGA Public Links Championship, Jonathan Jeter of Nassau Players continued his hot streak by earning medalist honors after a scorching round of 6-under 66.

Other notable performances came from Kevin Talty of Smithtown Landing with a round of 3-under 69 and Jay Card III of Gardiners Bay with a round of 2-under 70.

A trio of players also finished in the red numbers with rounds of 1-under 71; including Gerry Mackedon of Port Jefferson, as well as Oliver Hudesman and Nick DeMeo Jr. of host club Wheatley Hills.

Rounding out the top ten qualifiers with rounds of even-par 72 were Craig Brewer of Southward Ho, Andrew Chambers of Maidstone, Chris Fischer of Bethpage State Park, and Kyle Brey of Bethpage State Park.

Thirteen players safely qualified with rounds of 2-over or better: Jack Wilson of MGA eClub – Long Island (73), Matt Corrigan of Nassau Players (73), Alex Kang of Harbor Links (73), Amit Sharma of Harbor Links (73), David Prowler of Bethpage State Park (73), Colby Anderson of Nassau Country (73), Will Rand of East Hampton (73), Kyle Ritchie of Cherry Valley (73), Steve Perrone of Garden City CC (74), Dominic Formato of North Hills (74), Jonathan Farber of MGA eClub – Long Island (74), Huter Semels of North Hempstead (74), and Gary Cohan of Bethpage State Park (74).

The remaining players qualified through a 12-for-8 playoff: Carter Prince of Huntington Crescent (75), Joe Giattino of MGA eClub – Long Island (75), Chris Lambrou of MGA eClub – Long Island (75), Tyler Gerbavsits of Huntington Crescent (75), Joe Blando, Jr. of North Hempstead (75), Steven Tarulli of Hempstead (75), Stephen Walsh of MGA eClub – Long Island, and Matt Mirocco of Bellport (75).

Wheatley Hills Golf Club played to a par 72 at 6,816 yards.
