Talty, DeMeo, Jr. Lead Hebron Following Round One

(FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – July 30, 2018) – Round one of the Michael Hebron Amateur Championship concluded today as 77 competitors took on Bethpage State Park Golf Course (Black). There was a cut following the round as 42 players who shot 9-over or better moved on to tomorrow’s final round.

Two competitors stood out from the pack as Kevin Talty of Smithtown Landing and Nick DeMeo, Jr. of Wheatley Hills fired rounds of 3-under 68 to take the lead following the opening round. A birdie on the first hole set the pace for Talty’s round as he made the turn at 3-under. He continued his stellar play by carding nine consecutive pars on the inward nine. DeMeo, Jr. vaulted himself to the top of the leaderboard thanks to an impressive inward nine of 3-under, which was highlighted by a birdie on the difficult No. 10.

Ben Mitchell of Fresh Meadow finds himself four shots back from the leaders after a round of 1-over 72, while Jon Sherman of Port Jefferson, Dominic Formato of North Hills and Christian Oakley of Southampton positioned themselves in the top five after rounds of 2-over 73.

Bethpage played to a par 71 at 6,913 yards.
