Glen Cove Women's Duo of Dawn McKeown & Mary McMahon Capture the 17th MGA/MetLife Women's Net Team Championship

CONVENT STATION, N.J.--Glen Cove Women's team of former "Met Net" Champions Dawn McKeown and Mary McMahon again proved to be a complementary match as they teamed up to shoot a 10-under par 63 and capture the 17th MGA/MetLife Women's Net Team Championship today at Morris County Golf Club in Convent Station, NJ.

Their first time playing the beautiful Morris County course proved to be a success.    Despite a few missed putts, the team “playing for par” and were surprised to learn of their five stroke lead on Ramsey’s Joan Goldman and Lynn Asquith which earned them yet another title.  Their missed putts and par-performance on the par 3’s and 5’s had convinced them that “someone out here is getting them.”  “We didn’t think that 63 would be enough,” added McMahon.

Today’s win marks the second Women’s Net Team Championship title for Dawn McKeown and Mary McMahon, the first came in 1999.  Guided by a “target golf” style of play from their “small and tight” home course of Glen Cove Golf Club, the duo played extremely well and their 63 was ultimately enough to place them well ahead of the rest of the field and lock first place.

This year, once again, with the support of MetLife more than 2,000 teams competed at the club level for the right to advance to the three sectional qualifying rounds.  These sectional qualifying rounds produced the 38 teams that competed today in this 18-hole stroke play, net better ball with players competing at 90% of their course handicap.
