Rose Captures MGA Senior Amateur Title

PARAMUS, N.J.-Stephen Rose of Fresh Meadow CC fought off Mother Nature, and a highly competitive field, to capture the 76th MGA Senior Amateur Championship title at Arcola CC in Paramus, NJ.  Rose posted rounds of 72-76, to finish three stokes in front of Robert Currey and Bob Howe, both of Winged Foot.

Rose, 57, a retired graphic artist, started the day tied for the lead with Powers McLean of Jumping Book CC after both posted opening rounds of even par 72.  After struggling on the front nine with a four over par 40 that included a double bogey six on the first hole, Rose rolled in a curling birdie putt on 13 and sank another long par saving putt on the par-3 14th that got him going.

"This is the end of a thrilling week for me," said Rose, who won the Senior Division of the Richardson Memorial at The Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor, Long Island this past week.

The course, a Robert Trent Jones jewel, combined with rough weather to really show its teeth. Not a single competitor posted a sub-par round for the two-day event.  A complete list of today’s results is attached.

The next MGA event is the Senior/Pre-Senior Tournament scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at New Jersey's Colonia.
