Southampton, NY-In 1995 it was Jerry Courville Jr. and Darrel Kestner. This time around it is Garrison’s Johnson Wagner and Fairfield’s J.J. Henry who will carry the torch and represent the Met Area this week in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills GC, in Southampton.

Wagner, winner of five consecutive MGA titles from 2001-02 and current member of the Nationwide Tour, shot rounds of 67 and 70 for a five-under total to earn one of 33 spots in sectional qualifying Columbus, OH, his first trip to the National Championship.

Henry, winner of the 1994 and 1995 Connecticut Amateur and full time member of the PGA Tour, secured his spot by shooting rounds of 71-68 to qualify at Canoe Brook CC in Summit, NJ. He is currently ranked 96th on the PGA Tour money list and is coming off a strong showing at the Buick Classic (68-73-69-69=279) earning him a tie for 16th place.

Wagner is also playing well this year. Despite missing his last two cuts, Wagner posted back to back top 10 finishes in May placing him 30th on the Nationwide Tour money list.

Henry is scheduled to play with Pete Jordan (Valrico, Fl) and former Buick Classic winner J.P. Hayes (El Paso, TX) at 12:50 on Thursday off of the 10th tee and 7:50 Friday morning off the 1st tee.

Wagner will be in the second group to tee off Thursday morning (7:10) on the opening hole with John Elliott (Glastonbury, Conn.) and amateur Nathan Smith (Santa Cruz, Calif.)
