SHELLOCK, HOIT TIED FOR THE LEAD AT THE IKE

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. (June 27, 2006) – After a pair of 72’s in the first two rounds, Stephen Shellock of Eagle Oaks sits tied atop the leaderboard with Roger Hoit of Balutsrol after second-round action at the Ike Championship, presented by Canon, USA.  Hoit carded a five-over-par 75 in his second round after a first-round 68.

Andrew Giuliani of Van Cortlandt, John Keller of North Hills and Brooklawn’s John Murphy are all tied for second with totals of 145 after the second round. Giuliani, who started his second round on the 10th tee, was two over par on the back nine but dropped five shots on the front nine with bogeys at the first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh holes.  Murphy fired a one-over-par 71, including four birdies on the back nine.

The greens firmed up due to the morning’s high winds and Fresh Meadow did not yield an under-par score.  The low score of the second round was a one-over-par 71, shot by former Met Amateur champion Michael Stamberger of Plainfield, North Fork’s Scott Osler and Murphy.  With fourteen players within four shots of the lead, the final round should prove to be very exciting.
