Met PGA Honors 2007 Award Winners

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 10, 2007) - The Met PGA honored its 2007 award winners on Tuesday, April 15, at the 46th Annual Metropolitan PGA Educational Forum at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford, N.Y. Sponsored by Callaway Golf, the forum included the presentation of the Met PGA’s major awards and presentations by renowned golf instructors Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer and golf psychologist Dr. Richard Coop. More than 300 PGA professionals from the Met Section were in attendance.

Among the award winners honored on Tuesday was Country Club of Darien head professional Ed Nicholson, who was named Golf Professional of the Year. Nicholson has been at Darien for more than three decades and his outstanding quality of service, instruction, merchandise and tournament operations have distinguished him among his peers. Tony DeMaria of Willow Ridge Country Club was honored for his outstanding 2007 season with the Player of the Year Award. DeMaria put together a great year in 2007 that included wins at both the WGA Open and the Lincoln Met PGA Championship.

Other award recipients include: Gil McNally of Garden City GC (Sam Snead Award); Joe Felder of Griff Harris GC (Bill Strausbaugh Award); Michael Breed of Sunningdale CC (Horton Smith Award); Cheryl Anderson of the Mike Bender Golf Academy (Teacher of the Year); Stuart Waack of Silvermine GC (Junior Golf Leader Award); Jim Morris of the National Golf Links of America (Merchandiser of the Year - Private); Jimmi Conway of Pine Hills CC (Merchandiser of the Year - Public); Rodney Loesch of Connecticut GC (President’s Plaque); Robert Gable of Metropolis CC (Ely Callaway Award).
