Sterling Farms Duo Wins MGA Senior Net Four-Ball

LAWRENCE, N.Y. (June 9, 2008) – The Sterling Farms team of Frank Hendricks and Tom Yates captured the 16th MGA Senior Net Four-Ball Tournament title on Monday, June 9 at Lawrence Village Country Club in Lawrence, N.Y.

On a sun-soaked day on Long Island, Hendricks and Yates posted an afternoon net 58 on the par-70 Lawrence Village Country Club layout. Hendricks and Yates’ 58 eclipsed a net round of 62, posted in early in the day by the team of Steve Gutzler of Bamm Hollow and Matt Chiminski of LaTourette. The Pehquenakonck team of Michael Silvestri and Mike Vrana shot a net 62 in the afternoon, good enough for third place after a match of cards broke the second-place tie.  Five groups shot net 63 on the day, 5 shots off the pace. Among the group at 63 were defending champions Richard Baris and Bill Ludwig of Packanack, Valentine Stype of LI National and Bill Haardt of Suffolk Players, Split Rock’s Juan Campos and David Pilossoph, Pehquenakonck’s Kevin Dwyer and Tom Lewis, and the team of Andrew Gerone of Shore View and Henry Kong of Dyker Beach. Matthew Corrigan of Nassau Players Club and Ray Corrigan Jr. of Bethpage comprised the day’s low-gross team, with a round of 66.

Today’s event was conducted by the Metropolitan Golf Association. The event is open to male amateur golfers who have reached 50 years of age by May 1, 2007 and maintain a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 18.0.
