Junior Enjoy First Tee Open House at Weequahic Park

NEWARK, N.J. (March 25, 2008) - Junior golfers from Newark and surrounding communities attended an Open House hosted by The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. The youngsters had the chance to take some swings and receive some instruction on the driving range and putting green at the popular Weequahic Park facility, followed by the opportunity to play a few holes. PGA professionals from a number of MGA member clubs gave tips to the participants and emphasized the importance of “P.G.A.” (posture, grip, aim). Putting contests turned out to be very popular, with groups of juniors sinking 10-footers against their professional competition. The morning concluded with a barbecue that was enjoyed by all the attendees. The day was a huge success, and the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters was not only contagious, but a great way to kick off the 2008 season of First Tee programs.

The First Tee of Metropolitan New York (TFTMNY) was founded in 2001 as a joint venture between the Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation and Metropolitan Section of the PGA to create affordable and accessible golf facilities and bring First Tee programming to young people from all backgrounds. TFTMNY operates First Tee sites at Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx, Chelsea Piers in Manhattan and The First Tee of Nassau County at Eisenhower Park. TFTMNY also operates The First Tee of Essex County at Weequahic Park in conjunction with the New Jersey PGA and the NJSGA, and The First Tee of Bridgeport in conjunction with The First Tee of Connecticut.
