Upper Montclair Hosts MGA Presidents Council

CLIFTON, N.J. - The Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation conducted its annual Presidents Council Conference on October 13 at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, N.J. More than 220 club presidents and other club leaders attended the conference, which included a presentation by Sue Wegrzyn, President and CEO of the National Club Association, on the legal and legislative status update of clubs.

Wegryzyn was followed by a joint presentation by Dave Oatis of the USGA Green Section, Todd Raisch, the superintendent at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., and Chris Carson, superintendent at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, N.J. They presented an evaluation of the maintenance methods that are recommended to operate Met Area golf courses in ways that are cost efficient and reduce waste.

A lively final presentation was given by Richard Kopplin, one of the nation’s leaders in developing strategies for effective management and governance at private clubs. Kopplin emphasized the direction he sees private clubs heading due to the challenging economic times as well as the strategic planning that is necessary to attract new members in the current economic climate. A short Q&A session followed the presentations.
