Rain, Flooding Forces Postponement of Three MGA Championships until October

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 7, 2011) - The MGA championship calendar will look quite a bit different this October than it originally did when the schedule was released this past January. On the heels of the flooding rain from Tropical Storm Irene on August 27 and 28, additional rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee have caused continued flooding and wet course conditions across the Met Area, forcing the postponement of a three MGA championships originally scheduled for late August or September. The championships will now take place in October. Details are as follows:

1) The 15th MGA Senior Open Championship, originally scheduled for August 29 and 30 at Crestmont Country Club in West Orange, N.J., was postponed and has been rescheduled for Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18. The championship will remain at Crestmont. Competitors who cannot make the rescheduled dates may withdraw prior to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 5 to receive a full refund. Any cancellation after this date will not be eligible for a refund. The MGA Tournament Department will e-mail revised pairings and tournament information to competitors after October 5, and they will also be posted on mgagolf.org.

2) The 48th MGA Mixed Pinehurst Championship, a two-person team event originally scheduled for September 8 at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, N.J., has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 25. If a player cannot make the rescheduled date they may be substituted for as long as the replacement player is otherwise eligible. If the team cannot make the rescheduled date, they may withdraw prior to 5pm Wednesday, October 12 to receive a full refund (any cancellation after this date will not be eligible for a refund). Tournament Information and revised pairings will be posted on the MGA website.

3) The Inaugural MGA Masters Tournament, originally set for September 20 at the Country Club of Fairfield in Fairfield, Conn., has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 4 to allow the course additional time to recover from Irene-related flooding. Players who cannot make the rescheduled date are asked to withdraw prior to 5pm on Wednesday, September 21 to receive a full refund (any cancellation after this date will not be eligible for a refund). Tournament Information and revised pairings will be posted on the MGA website (www.mgagolf.org) and emailed to participants at this time.
