MGA Celebrates Grand Opening

On Wednesday, June 22, the MGA held a ceremony honoring the grand opening of its new Golf Central headquarters in Elmsford, N.Y. The event celebrated the completion of the expansion of Golf Central, which has now doubled in size from its original 8,200 sq. foot space, and serves as the home of the MGA, the Met PGA, the Westchester Golf Association, Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association and various other client associations. As MGA President Gene Bernstein put it, “There isn't much that goes on in golf that isn't connected in some way to what goes on in this building.”

Many of the people who helped make the new building a reality were recognized during the ceremony. This group includes the Donnelly Construction Group, Morris Golf, various area golf course superintendents, key benefactors, and others.

The new building features a number of new named areas that were created to recognize the generosity of several donors and longtime supporters of the MGA. These new areas include the Hall of Champions, made possible by a donation from the George J. Zahringer III Family; the Holzschuh Library, made possible by a donation from the Jeffrey R. Holzschuh Family and the Treiber Family Garden, made possible by a donation from the Treiber Family.

One of the highlights of the new building is the Paul R. Dillon Portrait Gallery, which houses many of the portraits painted by former MGA President Paul Dillon, of famous and influential figures in the game. The gallery also features a self portrait of Dillon, which was unveiled at the ceremony and will occupy a permanent spot in the gallery.

Three special contributors were honored for their generous support of the MGA Foundation as well as their many years of volunteer service to the Association. These three men are C.A. Tony Wimpfheimer, Lowell M. Schulman, and James M. Cotter. The three were acknowledged as the first three members of the newly established “1897 Club,” a special section in the new building specially reserved for major donors.

The new Golf Central will help the MGA serve Met Area golfers at the highest levels for many years to come.
