Nassau to Host 2014 Women’s Amateur

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (June 9, 2011) – Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y., has been named the host site of the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, scheduled to be played August 11-17. The historic club on Long Island will be hosting the event on the 100th anniversary of the club first hosting the championship in 1914.

One of the premier courses in the Met Area, Nassau holds the record for most times hosting MGA championships with 13. Most recently, the club welcomed the 2009 Ike Championship, which saw Mike Ballo Jr. of Woodway claim his first of two consecutive Ike wins.

The club’s rich history includes the origin of the Nassau bet, as well as hosting the 1903 U.S. Amateur, won by Walter Travis, and the 1914 U.S. Women’s Amateur, won by Katherine Harley Jackson. Since 1897, the club has hosted the Nassau Invitational, whose winners include players such as Walter Travis, Jerome Travers, Tommy Armour and George Zahringer III.
