13 Players Qualify at Southampton for the 2013 Ike Championship

Southampton, N.Y. (May 20, 2013)A total of 95 determined amateurs competed for 11 qualifying positions (plus ties) at today’s Sectional Qualifying Round for the 58th Ike Championship at Southampton Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.

Thirteen players qualified, and leading the field was Conor Casey of Somerset Hills and Christian Dolan of Timber Point, both with scores of 1-under par 69. Casey was a member of the victorious 2011 MGA Carey Cup squad and Dolan recorded a top-ten finish at last year’s MGA Public Links Championship.

Also advancing to the championship at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., on June 24 & 25 were Matt Ranum of Atlantic, Dylan Crowley of Glen Cove and Matthew Demeo of Nassau Players, all who turned in scores of 1-over 71. O’Donnell Lee of Piping Rock was the single player to card a 2-over 72 and earn his spot in the final championship field. Jack Maerki of MGA eClub – Long Island, Matt Corrigan of Nassau Players, and Matthew Esposito of Eisenhower Park punched their ticket to the Ike with scores of 3-over 73.

Finally, four players tied for the final qualifying positions with scores of 4-over 74. Casey Alexander of Nassau Players, Kurt Brey of Bethpage State, Sean Byrne of Garden City Golf Club, and Cody Gross of Met PGA Junior Golf Club advanced through today’s Sectional Qualifying Round

Today was one of five Sectional Qualifying Rounds for the 58th Ike Championship, the MGA’s annual stroke-play championship and one of the most prestigious events on the 2013 MGA Tournament schedule.

This year’s Ike will be played at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., on June 24 & 25 for the seventh time in the championship’s history. The format of the championship is 54 holes of stroke play, with the field cut to the low 40s and ties after 18 holes.
