This year’s field is led by Brent Ito of Ardsley, N.Y. Ito fired an even par 71 at the sectional qualifier at Rye Golf Club to not only qualify for the Boys Championship but the Met Junior as well, but he failed to make the match play at the Junior. Ito is a sophomore at Ardsley High School and in May, the 15-year-old won the Section 1 Boys Golf Championship at Fenway Golf Club. He beat one of the best juniors in the Met Area, James Nicholas of Scarsdale, N.Y., with a 2-over 72. Ito will take on Thomas Corrigan of Irvington, N.Y. in the first round of the championship.

One of the youngest players in the field is Nathan Han of Somers, N.Y. The 13-year-old carded a 1-over 72 at Rye Golf Club in the sectional qualifier, which also earned him a spot in the Met Junior at Rockaway River. Han took advantage and shot a pair of 72s in the Met Junior on-site stroke play qualifying round and advanced to match play, where he lost in the opening round to the eventual runner-up. He will play his first round match against another 13-year-old, James Pak of Glen Rock, N.J.

Also in the field is Erik Stauderman of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who shot a 2-over 74 at the sectional qualifier at New Paltz Golf Course. The 14-year-old came in 4th at the Dutchess County Amateur, which was the best finish of any teenager in the tournament. In May, he won the Dutchess County Golf Coaches Invitational in a playoff at McCann Memorial Golf Course. Stauderman will face Christian Oakley of Southampton, N.Y., in the opening round of the championship.

Rumson will be represented by its junior club champion at the 46th edition of the MGA/MetLife Boys Championship. Christopher Gotterup of Little Silver, N.J. will tee it up at his home course and he will take on Michael Glatstein of White Plains, N.Y. in the first round.

There are four other matches in the first round that should provide exciting action. Michael Brennan, Jr. of Oyster Bay, N.Y will play Michael Purcell of Nutley, N.J. Both players are 15 years of age and each carded 76s at their respective sectional qualifiers. Ethan Ng of New York, N.Y. earned medalist honors at his qualifier at Lake Success Golf Course thanks to his 1-over 71. He will take on Bobby Henry Mulcahy of Gladstone, N.J. in the first round. Two players who also qualified at Rye Golf Club will face off in the first round. They are Andrew Purse of Greenwich, Conn. and Matthew Lee-Tolley of New York, N.Y. The final first round match will be between Bobby Weise of Freehold, N.J. and Andre H. Chi of Huntington, N.Y.
