Massa and Wilster of Sprain Valley Win Senior Net Four-Ball

Carmel, N.Y. (May 8, 2014) – Steve Massa and Keith Wilster of Sprain Valley Golf Club shot a net 14-under 58 to win the 22nd MGA Senior Net Four-Ball Tournament at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, N.Y.

After some rain in the morning, Massa and Wilster navigated Centennial’s Lakes and Meadows nines to earn the low score of the day and finish two strokes ahead of the field.

The 2011 winners Peter Rubeo and Anthony Sarlo of Sprain Lake Golf Club finished as the runner-up team with a net 12-under 60. Rubeo also won the 2002 Senior Net Four-Ball when it was an individual event. Coming in third was the team from Peninsula Golf Club, Dave Hochman and Paul Moran, with  a net 11-under 61.

Also finishing at the top of the leaderboard was Ray Romeo and Dennis Morrissey of the Yonkers Amateur Golf Association at net 10-under 62. Five teams tied at tied for fifth with scores of net 8-under par 64; they were Franklin Wolf and Dick Altschul of Preakness Hills  and Forest Hill, John McGroarty and Kevin Behan of Sterling Farms, Bill Ludwig and Rick Baris of Packanack , Arthur Spitalnick and Alan Sealove of Harbor Links and Tom Aldycki and John Pirrone of Latourette.

Steven Samuels and Donald Lowman of Rolling Hills carded a 2-under 70 to win the Low Gross prize.

The MGA Senior Net Four-Ball Tournament is open to male amateur golfers, age 50 and over, who maintain a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 18.0. 

Centennial’s Lake and Meadows nines played to a total of 6,247 yards. The hilly layout proved to be an excellent test to the field of 92 two-man teams.
