More Met Players Compete in Second Stage of Web.com Tour Q-School

UPDATE (November 20, 2015) - 2011 and 2012 MGA Player of the Year Mike Miller put together a high-caliber performance this week at the Second Stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying School and now advances to the Final Stage, set for December 10-13 at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Miller, from Brewster, N.Y., also competed in Second Stage at Plantation Preserve Golf Club in Plantation, Fla., last year, coming up just short. But, he finished well inside the qualifying line this week as he tied for fourth at 10-under-par 274. Miller carded four sub-par rounds, including a bogey-free 66 on Thursday which placed him in solo fourth entering the final round.

He will join 2014 MGA Player of the Year David Pastore at the Final Stage, as Pastore also finished tied for fourth in Second Stage play at Clubs of Kingwood - Deerwod in Kingwood, Texas, last week.

Scores for all Met Area players competing in this week's last two rounds of Second Stage are available below.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (November 16, 2015) – The Second Stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying School wraps up this week, Nov. 17-20, at locations in Florida and California, where a host of Met Area players will look to advance to the Final Stage. Three sites hosted Second Stage qualifying last week and 2014 MGA Player of the Year David Pastore earned his way to the finals.

Six players with local ties will compete at Plantation Preserve Golf Club in Plantation, Fla., including Deepdale Assistant Professional and 100th Met Open champion, Ben Polland. After a busy summer, which also included a runner-up finish at the PGA Professional National Championship and an appearance in the PGA Championship, Polland will look to earn a spot on the touring ranks.

Mike Miller of Brewster, N.Y., and Mike Ballo, Jr., of Stamford, Conn., are looking to build on their summer of experience on the Mackenzie Tour. Two-time MGA Player of the Year Miller, who also recently took a run at qualifying for the European Tour, finished the season on the Mackenzie Tour with three straight top-10 finishes. A pair of top-20 finishes highlighted the season for Ballo, Jr., a two-time Ike champion.

Rounding out local competitors at Plantation Preserve are 2010 Met Amateur winner Evan Beirne, 2006 Carter Cup champion Chris DeForest and Manhasset, N.Y.’s Tarik Can.

Ryan McCormick is making the cross-country trek to compete at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. The 2012 Met Amateur champion also competed on the Mackenzie Tour in 2015, where he achieved his best three finishes of the season in his final three events, which included a top-10.

The finals, which have been reduced to four rounds instead of six to resemble a traditional Web.com Tour event, will take place Dec. 10-13 on both the Champion and Fazio courses at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. All of those advancing to the Final Stage will earn at least conditional status on the Web.com Tour for 2016. This week, the top 21 plus ties advance from Plantation Preserve, while top 20 plus ties advance from Oak Valley.
