Road to Oakmont begins with Local Qualifying

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 5, 2016) - Last year, 22 players made their way through local and sectional qualifying stages to compete in the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay. It's time for the journey to start once again, with the end goal being a spot in the 116th U.S. Open Championship, to be played at Oakmont Country Club, June 16-19.

Between May 2 and May 19, 111 U.S. sites will host 18-hole local qualifying rounds, in which the number of qualifying positions is determined by the size of each field. The MGA will conduct five local qualifying rounds throughout the area, beginning Tuesday, May 10. Nationally, approximately 600 players will then advance to 36-hole sectional qualifying rounds, the final stage for U.S. Open hopefuls. On June 6, sectionals will take place at 10 sites across the U.S., including the MGA's site at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J.
