WGA Amateur Championship Qualifying Concludes With the Senior and Super Senior Divisions

White Plains, N.Y. (May 31, 2017) – Qualifying for the 2017 WGA Senior and Super Senior Amateur concluded today at Elmwood Country Club in White Plains, N.Y. The qualifier was divided into two divisions, the Senior Division and Super Senior Division. A total of 15 players qualified in the Senior Division and 7 players qualified in the Super Senior Division.

In the Senior Division, Scott Matthews of Hudson Hills Golf Course and Mark Vassalotti of Sterling Farms Mens Golf Club shared medalist honors with solid rounds of 3-over 74.

Coming in close behind were, Shorehaven Golf Club’s Jim Romaniello and John Paul Newport of Blue Hill Golf Association with scores of 6-over 77.

Eleven players took the remaining Senior Division qualifying positions: Tom Evans of Siwanoy Country Club (78), Tom Fox of Apawamis Club (78), George Riehm of Sprain Valley Golf Club (79), Tom Yellin of The Stanwich Club (80), Drew Greenland of Rockrimmon Country Club (80), Yale Stogel of Quill & Tee Golf Club (80), Bruce Crystal of Salem Golf Club (81), Andre Bolukbas of MGA Eclub W/CT (81), Gary Rendlesham of Old Oaks Country Club (81), Frank Geiger of MGA Eclub- Wch/CT (81) and Martin Dolan of Ardsley Country Club (81).

In a one-hole playoff, David Braham of Whippoorwill Club earned the first alternate spot, while Peter Rymer of Spook Rock Golf Club took the second alternat spot.

Three players took top honors in the Super Senior Division with cards of 10-over 81 including Peter Friedes of Wykagyl Country Club, Michael Gemei of MGA Eclub- Hudson Valley, and Robert Miller of Spook Rock Golf Club.

The remaining positions were filled by Scotty George of Westchester Country Club (82), Kenneth Luczaj of Brooklawn Country Club (85), Rick Blank of Metropolis Country Club (85), and Russ Sirico of Lake Isle Country Club (86).

Elmwood played to a par 71 at 6,305 yards for a field of 71 players.
