Hagestad competing in South American Amateur Open
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (January 19, 2017) - The 12th South American Amateur Open takes place January 19-22 at Martindale Country Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and 2016 MGA Player of the Year Stewart Hagestad is in the field, one of four competitors chosen by the USGA to represent the United States.
Organized by the South American Golf Federation and the Argentine Golf Association, a total of 72 men and 51 women are in the international field which includes representatives from over a dozen countries. All four competitors hailing from the U.S. are USGA champions: Hagestad, 2016 Mid-Amateur; Scott Harvey, 2014 USGA Mid-Amateur and winner of the 2015 South American Amateur; Meghan Stasi, four-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion; and Julia Potter, two-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion.
Since accepting his player of the year award in early December, Hagestad has not slowed this winter. The California native quickly returned home to take part in a Walker Cup practice session while he's also readying his game for this year's Masters, to which he received his formal invitation just before the new year. Hagestad has been clear about his desire to earn the chance to represent the United States on the 2017 Walker Cup team and hopes to continue making an impression with his play through the winter months.
Martindale Country Club opened in 1989 and plays to a par-72 at approximately 6,900 yards. It is considered one of Argentina's best courses and has welcomed a number of national and South American events, including the Argentine Open in 1999 and 2014.
