45 Qualify for Lexus MGA Senior Open

LAWRENCE, N.Y. (August 8, 2022) – After a hot day at Lawrence Yacht and Country Club, the field has been set for the 26th Lexus MGA Senior Open Championship. The championship will take place August 29-30 at The Patterson Club in Fairfield, Conn., as it hosts the event for the first time. Year after year, the championship field gets deeper and deeper as more players reach the age of eligibility.

Cary Stephan of Whippoorwill Club and Steve Donnelly of Pine Hollow Country Club led the day with the low score of 2-under 68. Stephan carded four birdies en route to his impressive finish. Donnelly got off to a fast start, with birdies on Nos. 1 and 2, helping him cement his spot at the top.

John Bushka of Aspetuck Valley was the only other player to shoot under par, finishing 1-under 69, while Benjamin Jenkins of Gardiner’s Bay, the lowest scoring amateur shot, an even-par 70.

Overall, 45 players advanced to The Patterson Club, with 31 being amateurs. Players shooting 7-over 77 or better advanced.
