$5 Rounds for Juniors through YOC Continues

Youth On Course

The MGA Foundation is proud to partner with Youth on Course  providing affordable weekday golf to juniors 6-18 at more than 30 public facilities in the Met Area. Several new facilities are participating in 2020, including the two courses at Rockland Lake in Congers, N.Y.. In the 2020 golf season, so far nearly 600 rounds have been played in the Met Area by YOC members.

With a Youth on Course membership, juniors have more access to more facilities, and are able to learn the important values that golf teaches while enjoying more time on the course with friends and family members. We asked some of our local YOC members to share their experiences with the program, what they love about golf, and what goals they've been able to accomplish with the help of a Youth on Course Membership. Here's what our members had to say:

"I get to spend more time with my dad on the course, and I really appreciate it." - Veronica, age 11

"I wanted to break 80, and I accomplished that goal this summer. I practiced my short game a lot." - James, age 13

"YOC is great, especially for city kids like me who don't have much exposure to golf. YOC helped introduce me to the game and helped develop the love I have for it." - Giacamo

"I love golf because there are so many things that you can compare to life and life lessons. There's so many things you can learn, like to never give up and always keep trying." - Sophia, age 15

"Since each round if $5, we get to have great experiences playing many rounds at different golf courses and different venues." - Isaiah, age 15

When the MGAF's partnership with Youth on Course launched in 2019, many outstanding facilities joined the program in the spirit of giving more juniors playing opportunities at an affordable $5 rate. Bethpage State Park courses, Dyker Beach, Hendricks Field Golf Course, Hudson Hills Golf Course, Mosholu Golf Course, Mahopac Golf Course, Pine Ridge Golf Course and Weequahic Golf Course are just a few of the courses currently participating. To date, more than 1,000 rounds have been played at all five of Bethpage's golf courses.

Youth on Course operates in 39 regions across the country and has over 1,300 courses in the program. There are more than 70,000 juniors registered nationally, including over 2,000 juniors in the Met Area. The program is a win-win for golf facilities as same-day or advance tee-times are offered to juniors who pay a $5 green fee and then the MGA Foundation subsidizes the remaining amount up to the established junior rate. Many juniors bring a parent to play at a full adult rate which is another plus for the golf facilities.

More play means more passion for golf among this young generation and a better opportunity to develop a life-long connection to the game as well as local golf communities.

There is a lot of golf still to be played this year! Junior golfers may sign up for a YOC membership to have access to participating facilities throughout the Met Area and across the country. Membership also includes an MGA membership, a USGA/GHIN handicap, and all MGA member benefits. Click here to register. | Full list of participating Met Area facilities.
