Angier, Sweet lead final Pub Linx qualifiers from Sterling Farms, Putnam County

STAMFORD, Conn. (June 21, 2017) – Henry Angier of Darlington carded a 1-over 73 at Sterling Farms Golf Course, Wednesday, leading seven qualifiers for the 70th MGA Public Links Championship, held July 6 at Ballyowen Golf Club in Hamburg, N.J.

Though Angier started the round slowly with a 3-over 39 on his first nine, he turned momentum around to capture the top spot as he fired a 2-under 34 on the inward nine. He tallied three birdies over those final nine holes, earning medalist honors by one shot.

Chris Kelly of Centennial and Eric Bleile of Sterling Farms secured their place at Ballyowen with matching 2-over 74s.

Andre Chi of MGA eClub - Long Island, James Chojnacki of Rolling Green, Bart Weissman of Sterling Farms, and Tim Creutz of MGA eClub - Wch/Ct earned the remaining qualifying spots with 4-over 76s.

Sterling Farms played to a par 72 at 6417 yards.

MAHOPAC, N.Y. (June 21, 2017) – A total of seven competitors qualified for the 70th MGA Public Links Championship from Putnam County Golf Course, Wednesday, led by Met PGA Junior member Matthew Sweet’s 3-under 69.

Sweet carded three birdies in a four-hole span to make the turn in 3-under 33. He added two more birdies on the inward nine to offset a pair of bogeys and earn medalist honors by two strokes.

Gray Barnes of Centennial and Ian Wilson of McCann both fired 1-under 71s to successfully advance as well.

Joseph Casarella of Mohansic and Ryan Rodriguez of Mansion Ridge secured their spots in the nation’s oldest public links championship by carding even-par 72s, while Jim Hamburger of McCann and Devlin Walsh of Shawangunk earned their way to Ballyowen by shooting 2-over 74.

Putnam County played at 6463 yards as a par-72.
