At this year's conference at Brae Burn Country Club, MGA Vice President Andy Stock welcomed the group before introducing the day's first speaker, Joe Trauger, VP of Government Relations of the National Club Association. Trauger provided an update on a number of important legal and legislative issues facing the private club industry, including healthcare reform, real estate evaluations, private club status, and tax issues.

Trauger then joined a group of industry leaders for a panel discussion focusing on legal, legislative and regulatory concerns for MGA Member Clubs, moderated by MGA President Tod Pike. Joining Trauger were Dan Condon of Condon, O'Meara, McGinty & Donnelly, LLP, Charles Dorn from the New York State Club Association, Mike McCall of the MetGCSA, and Glenn Smith representing Seyfarth Shaw, LLP.

The panelists shared crucial information for club leaders, as recent legal and legislative issues have presented a call to action for the golf community. Such challenges require knowledge and preparation for all club leaders to proactively present the value that golf courses bring to their communities.

Following the panel discussion, Pike provided an update on the happenings of the MGA and MGA Foundation in 2019 and plans for 2020 before a brief break in the program.

The program resumed with a session with Dan Condon, who encouraged clubs to review the "wellness of their clubs." Condon touched on many aspects of club operations that should be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that all clubs continue to perform well.

Rick Coyne, the President of Club Mark Corporation, closed the educational portion of the day with a presentation on "The Art of Significance." Rick provided insight on programs, events, and assets that are more relevant to today's club members and potential new members. His presentation focused on the best practices that are working, and the keys to enhancing the membership retention process while also building relationships that cultivate community.

Following the educational sessions, attendees enjoyed golf at Brae Burn to close out the day.
