Dawkins Represents TFTMNY at Pure Insurance Championship
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 27, 2018) -- Each year, participants from The First Tee chapters all across the country get the thrill of teeing it up at Pebble Beach Golf Links in the PGA TOUR Champions PURE Insurance Championship, which this year takes place September 28-30. Cameren Dawkins, a Hillside, N.J., native and participant at The First Tee of Metropolitan New York's Essex County site at Weequahic Park, is in the field this year and will play alongside three-time PGA TOUR winner Jerry Kelly. The 54-hole event features 81 PGA TOUR Champions players paired with 81 junior golfers ages 15-18, while 162 amateurs complete the field for the event which also includes play at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
Dawkins, a senior at Union Catholic, and the rest of the juniors were selected by a national panel of judges based on playing ability and application of the Nine Core Values and life skills learned through The First Tee's programs. Dawkins has been playing golf for more than 10 years and is a seven-year participant in TFTMNY programming. He has been a standout participant, having twice attended the Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. Life Skills & Leadership Academy, where participants have the opportunity to further develop leadership skills.
The First Tee of Metropolitan New York was founded in 2001 at Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx and now includes five additional facilities throughout the Met Area. The chapter was formed through a partnership that includes the MGA Foundation and the Met Section PGA. The chapter's mission continues to be to impact the lives of young people by providing education programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf, with a focus of serving minority and under-privileged youth.
