Hodge, Blake, Burke Lead U.S. Jr. Am Qualifiers

LARCHMONT, N.Y. (June 23, 2021) – Beautiful weather highlighted a busy day at Bonnie Briar Country Club as three young women punched their ticket to the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur and four young men qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur. The girls qualifier was the first off, finishing up in the early afternoon. Alice Hodge, a Larchmont native, shot the low round, finishing at -2. She was one of three qualifiers, joined by Leigh Chien and Sophia Bae. Both Bae and Chien finished their rounds a +1.

Hodge shot a one-over, 37 on the front before torching the back nine and finishing three under in her final eight holes. She was the lone golfer in the Girls Junior Amateur qualifier. Mia Sessa finished just outside the top three, at +2. With that score she claimed the first alternate position. The day finished for the ladies with a two for one playoff between Mia Scarpati and Josephine Genereux to claim the second alternate spot. Genereux prevailed on the first playoff hole.

In the afternoon, the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier took center stage as there was a bunched leaderboard for most of the day. Barnes Blake entered the clubhouse early with the score to beat at +1. That would hold until the second to last group, as Braden Burke matched his one over to tie for the low round.

Leo Mangan and George Roessler both finished towards the middle of the day and claimed the other two qualifying spots with matching +2, 73’s.

A playoff was needed to decide the alternate positions in the afternoon as well. Jack Murphy birdied two of his last five holes to put himself in the playoff and then claimed the first alternate position with a win on the first playoff hole. Charles Schrohe was the second alternate.
